Case study #1

Precast Tunnel Segment - Bending Test

Barchip reinforced precast segments of internal diameter 2.07m were tested for bending loads.

The load was applied via a hydraulic ram fitted to a steel RSJ beam across the inside face of the segment.

28 day compressive strength cube results were 63.3 MPa.

Test 1 using 7Kg/m³ fibres.

Test date 07/10/02.

  • First crack occurred at 11.5 tonnes, no increase in load could be applied.
  • The load then fell back to 9.5 tonnes and held.
  • After releasing the load the cracks closed up but could still be seen.

Test 2 using 7Kg/m³ fibres.

Test date 07/10/02.

  • First crack occurred at 11.0 tonnes, an increase of load could be applied to a maximum of 11.5 tonnes.
  • The load then fell back to 9.5 tonnes and held.
  • After releasing the load the cracks closed up but could still be seen.

Did you know...?
During a recent failure load test on a Barchip reinforced precast element the crack closed up when the load was removed.

Dosing Barchip

Simple to batch

Safer & lighter to handle than steel fibre.
Sicurezza

Reduce back injury

Did you know one 5kg bag of Barchip gives equivalent energy absorption performance to 25kg of steel fibre.

No more needles

Steel fibers are often referred to as needles due to the high frequency of puncture injuries to skin when handling

Benefits
Replace steel mesh
Safer and lighter to handle
Flexural Toughness equal to steel
Reduce crack widths
No rusting ensuring long term durability
Improved Fire rating

Less product damage and repair
