Case study #1
Company: Rio Tinto
Project Site: North Parkes Mine, Australia
Operation: Block cave - copper / gold
Depth: 800m
Contractor: Henry Walker Eltin

Scope:

The shotcrete specification for the NPM Lift 2 expansion project called for "synthetic fibre only" due to ongoing electrical short circuit damage to mining equipment caused by previously used steel fibre.
Rock burst conditions dictated a Toughness requirement of 380 Joules energy absorption on the Round Determinate Panel (RDP) test method.

Solution:

Barchip fibre reinforced shotcrete application to all underground excavation, including access declines, crusher station and draw points.

NPM Crusher Chamber

Did you know...?
Barchip fibre reinforced shotcrete can absorb up to 20 times more energy from rock displacement when compared to unreinforced shotcrete.

Did you know one 5kg bag of Barchip gives equivalent energy absorption performance to 25kg of steel fibre.

Benefits
Flexural toughness
equal to steel
Strain hardening during
ground deformation
No rusting ensuring
durable support
Safer & lighter to handle than steel fibre
No damage to trailing electrical cables on mining equipment

Reduced wear on concrete pumps & hoses
