Case study #1

Barchip fibre vs Steel mesh

The following pictures and graph form a brief summary of concrete flooring research undertaken by Dr. Stefan Bernard in Australia.

The aim of this analysis was to compare the relative performance of steel mesh vs Barchip Kyodo synthetic fibre in a simulated concrete floor failure.
The test method involved casting 1200mm (47") diameter x 125mm (5") thick concrete panels and testing them on a rubber support to simulate a subgrade soil reaction.

No. Specimen Description
1

F62 steel mesh  6mm wire @ 200mm centres
(1/4" wire @ 8" centres)
2
Barchip Kyodo fibre 3.5 kg per cubic metre
(6 lbs per cubic yard)

rotation of segments about yield lines (cracks)

Did you know...?
New research has shown that as little as 3.5 kg m3 of Barchip Kyodo can replace 20 kg m3 steel fibre or equivalent steel mesh.

Benefits
Easy to place and finish
No rust spots on surface finish
Equivalent flexural toughness to steel mesh or steel fibre
No rusting ensuring long term durability
Safer & lighter to handle

Reduced wear on pumping equipment

Safety

Reduce back injury

Did you know one 5kg bag of Barchip gives equivalent energy absorption performance to 25kg of steel fibre.

No more needles

Steel fibers are often referred to as needles due to the high frequency of puncture injuries to skin when handling

Paper Bags

Barchip is also available in dissolvable paper bags making batching even simpler. Just throw them "bag and all" in the truck and then batch your load of concrete.
